About Kylie Bourne
Inspirationally I am driven by a love of colour, nature, environment, family, friends and gardening. I enjoy working with glass predominately and create artworks that reflect my personality.
My artistic journey began around 2002 in a rather peculiar manner – whilst at home raising a young family and busily gardening, I decided that the septic tank in the house yard required ‘blending’ into the garden. After much deliberation the grand plan of mosaicing the septic tank began, and to this end it is now covered with hand-cut glass flowers, bees and dragonflies…and so a passion for mosaics was discovered.
Professionally, I have progressed from a very basic and simplistic style to creating intricate detail in larger artworks. As I am self- taught this has been a gradual yet rewarding process. I look back at my earlier pieces to those that I am creating now and can see the development. I’m looking forward to an artistic future that continues to challenge and develop my skills and passion in working with glass.
The majority of my work to date has been created using hand-cut coloured glass, tiles and mirror, however I also explore ideas through sculpture and like to dabble and try new artforms at times.
My family, friends and home setting on the banks of the Dogwood Creek surrounded by a cottage garden and 80 year old jacaranda’s continue to influence and inspire me. I am most at home in my studio
and garden, exploring the elements of creativity and nature. I truly do believe that we all have a creative element- there are those of us that have a deep seeded yearning to explore and share our interpretation with others.
